Since 2013 I am very keen on participating on this kind of "come together".. No award, no race.. Only aim is to make new photos with respect to the given topic.. I have to admit that I was not able to make it happen for more than once.. I know it's a pity.. and for sure there can not be that excuse which covers all the time or otherwise it can not be the case that through the years every week an acceptable reason was given for me not to go out and make it happen..
After questioning in a very honest way to find out the reason I am pretty sure it's me, my willingness and workflow.. I have to adapt my workflow by having a look on my calendar more often and respect the entry reflecting the topic for the week started.. I have to mention that all the topics are known in advance covering all the year.. So in case you observe something in the meantime you should make a kind of note/reminder for yourself to come back to that location in that week where it's been scheduled for.. Of course it will be not easy if you are on a trip and going through Iceland and a topic after 3 weeks suits to a location in Iceland which you discover later.. Depending on your free time and available budget maybe it is not a challenge but frankly said it is not always that case.. So here I may adapt my workflow by having a look on my calendar and view the topics for the coming up 2-3 weeks when I take my DSLR with me and go out to take photos..
Since this is not a kind competition where you have to deliver by latest ____ so you can participate, you can feel free to deliver some photos later than the week where it was foreseen.. The point is to keep continuing taking photos and gather comments which hopefully will be helpful to improve your skills and way of seeing your environment..
This article is still not done but I do not want to wait to share it so I just publish it right now.. I am pretty sure that I will write some further thoughts afterwards and hopefully share some photos with respect to the Projects topics..
I want to admit that in the meantime I did not make it to manage my time accordingly and enable myself to be a part of this project.. It is an example when photography is a hobby and not the main source with makes you earn your money. The time left from the huge workload is sometimes only enough to balance your privacy (family) and no more space is given to make additional investments in terms of time for your interests. Furthermore somehow you get reminded that the healthy is a prerequisite in order to undertake any kind of action / way forward..
June-2015 --> I have to admit that I missed my own target as I wrote above. There are several reasons why it did not work for me. But in the end it is on you to make it happen. To support this it helps to have someone around you who is really motivating you and inspires you. I look forward to change my situation in short notice.
It is time to make a kind of "cash check" by end of 2015. Unfortunately in spite of all my enthusiasm I was not to make it even once in 2015 to take a shot for this project.
Again close to the end of 2015 a new group is been set-up at G+ for 2016. And again I will give a try to it. My idea is to keep an eye on my diary and for that reason I took the chance to use the calendar file offered to implement. So at least then I assume to see every Tuesday the new theme and keep motivating even when I am over-rolled with my business appointments.
21.02.2016: Just a short update. I have to admit that in the past almost 2 months I was not able to make a step for this. I was only once able to go out and take some photos and the duration of my session was not longer than 30Min. since it was very very cold outside! But after so much efforts at work it is positive to observe that the "urgency/criticality" is over and I am back in a regular workload period which means that I can forecast and even spend the time as I have it foreseen for my interest. Going to gym and taking photos are the 2 which I prioritize after my family!
I do have some kind of dreams linked to photography.. One of these "dreams" is to visit Iceland in participation of a Photo-Tour with a group of professional and/or highly enthusiast hobby photographer.. Hereto I started to save money and in parallel tried to find out which tour fits to my expectations.. It did not take long to figure out that the photo-tour offered by Martin Bailey is the one I am looking for.. :-)
In 2014 I had the chance to live up my "dream".. Even to raise my luck: Thomas Schwarz who I know from one of a Photo-Workshop which we participated together previously was also participating.. To be honest: It was him who made me aware about the tour with Martin Bailey by his tweet..
I'd like to write my feeling and impression about Iceland but in all 3 languages I am able to speak it will be not enough to bring it through. Once I heart on a Podcast referring to the Iceland: "It is Disney Land for Photographers!"..
Well, first of all I have to admit that I rarely used Photoshop while finalizing my images in post-processing.. Lightroom was and over all may continue to be the main driver since it covers a big area of need..
Even I am open mined to learn new and understand an approach which I am not familiar with but which is been proofed by gathering the acceptance of the majority.. Hereto I may add the comment that Adobe's status is not only the outcome of their good product... The fact that not really competitive software is been offered play's a role.. I heard / read something about Affinity Designer for Vector.. A beta version is coming for Photo.. And in the blog's I read more good than bad and a huge hope is given to have a competitive software at the end on the market which does not ask for a monthly payment!
It is for sure not a secret that the core idea of Photoshop is to understand the way of working with layer's.. It takes time to catch on this approach.. At least this counts for me.. Thanks to some useful videos on youtube and DVDs explaining step by step the action and the possible usage I was able to make a start.. Nevertheless I direct speech with someone who is good in it is key.. Here I would like to link the homepage of my colleague who reserved hours for me within his free time.. But for the time being he does not have a homepage.. And I need his confirmation in order to mention his name here.. To confirm what I understood is correct and to gather some important professional tipps to solve some issues without to spend much time.. Even to understand a complexity..
Below I would like to share with you 2 photo's which is really the first one which I finalized by only using Photoshop..
Here is the one which comes stright out of my Canon 5D Mark III:
And here is the one which is finalized at Photoshop:
I am very happy that my wife agrees that I take some of my photography-equipment with me even when we are taking our annual "Family Holiday" which is at least partly close to a beach! For sure in return she expects from me a kind of documentary photos from our vacation which is not somehow look like a snapshot..
So I limited myself even in advance by choosing which lens I take with me and which one I leave home.. I felt in the moment I decided to leave my Sigma 70-200 at home a kind of regret but to be honest the main reason was the weight.. I am pretty sure that I would mainly leave it in the hotel room.. So why not to leave home.. In the 2 weeks we spend on Palma de Mallorca I experienced several moments where I wished I would have taken it with me.. Afterwards when I compare the time I would carry it and the possible images I would have had the chance to take an image with, than I am glad about my decision.. Overall it has to be considered that I have to take care about my family.. Photography is in that case secondary..
Every journey every trip takes you to somewhere.. Even to make a acquaintance of someone new will take you to new opportunities, challenges, happiness and may be regrets.. Who knows? This image inspires me to think about that kind of thoughts..
My next stop after my Oslo visit was Stockholm.. To be honest: Even I was impressed from Oslo.. Stockholm is way more impressive.. Without to have it in mind it was a good decision to visit first Oslo so my impression increased during my tour..
I am just reviewing my photos.. As once my former boss told me: "Better being late than delivering never!".. So even there is not that much to adjust it takes time to make some minor changes one by one.. In the coming days I am going to upload these and my idea is to write my impression guided by my photos..
Independent of that I could not avoid to upload a few of them.. Here we go..
It was a pleasure to take the time and walk more than 20.000 steps (counted via fitbit) cross Stockholm.. For sure it was a gift that the weather was that sunny in April which I assume is not usual..
It was not a bad idea to take the chance of "hop on hop off" busses. Especially with respect to the 2 days before I spend in Oslo which also was asking my effort via over 20.000 steps a day..
